Oct 2008 Karen's Top Tip: Stay on top at competition Oct 2008

As we are now coming back into competition season, it seems a really good opportunity for me to drop in a top tip that will help you at a competition. Over the last six months I have observed you all performing well at competitions, but performance can be improved merely by what you wear on the pool side. I have seen many swimmers stepping straight out of the pool in their wet gear, straight into their T-shirts. This means wet kit all day. You may not feel cold but wet skin means stiffness and cold muscles which reduces performance dramatically. KarenŐs top tip this month is therefore to take at least two towels to every competition, meaning that you can get dry after warm up/swims and keep your muscles protected. A super top tip is to wear an old swimsuit in the warm up and then put your dry suit on ready for your race.
