Kit Information

Fins: These are one of the swimmers most important pieces of equipment. They are uses for building leg and ankle strength whilst kicking, but also for balance in slow drill work. When you purchase fins, you need short stubby ones, sometimes called ZOOMERS. The long fins are good for scuba divers, but not for swimmers.
Kick Boards: A float used to keep the body stable, whilst the swimmer practises their leg kick. They come in many different shapes and sizes, all of which are functional.
Pull Buoys: The floats are used to stop the legs from kicking, but also to keep the legs floating. They can be used for skill or strength work
Hand paddles: Can equally be used for skill or strength work, by increasing the surface area that the swimmer has to push on. The paddle should just be a little larger than the hand for junior swimmers.
Drinks bottle: Exceptionally important for swimmers, as they sweat in the pool and when you get dehydrated, you then start to loose concentration and swim badly. We donŐt want that. Our drinks bottle, should always be ready at the end of our lanes
Mesh Bag: A mesh bag allows us to keep our kit together and dry quickly. It also stops all our nice shiny new kit from going mouldy.
It is now time for you to start to put your kit together, you will use all of these things in the future, but the most important things at the moment are your kick board and fins and mesh bag. Sports shops are not good at stocking specialist swimming equipment and over the years the best websites I have found to use are www.allensswimwear.co.uk and www.swimshop.co.uk. When it comes to swimming equipment, Speedo has been tried and tested for many years and I would recommend their products. MOST IMPORTANT PUT YOUR NAME ON ALL YOUR KIT WITH PERMANENT MARKER PEN, that way, if you leave it at the pool, we know who to return it to :)
